Arrest made after bicyclist hit, killed in Fort Lauderdale
Bicycle Crash Fort Lauderdale Florida in Fort Lauderdale, Florida: A 68-year-old woman riding her bicycle was hit and killed on the Southeast 17th Street Causeway in Fort Lauderdale, police said. The bicyclist, identified as Shelley Lewis, was found lying in the east bicycle lane with a mangled bike near her shortly before 7 a.m. Thursday after two men called 911. She was taken to Broward Health Medical Center as a trauma alert and later pronounced dead. By 4:30 p.m., officers had arrested Don Janea Smith, 22, who was held on charges of leaving the scene of an accident involving death and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence; the car involved was also recovered.
