Pedestrian Hit Newark Massachusetts in Newark, Massachusetts: Two women were killed in an alleged hit-and-run while walking home from a World Cup watch party in Newark, N.J. Mariana Elizabeth Valverde Beltran, 58, and Maria Isabel DeLosAngeles Salgado Ayala, 61, were struck by a car in a crosswalk on June 20 at about 11 p.m. and were taken to a local hospital where they were pronounced dead. The driver allegedly fled the scene, and on June 23, David J. Zapata-Vera, 26, surrendered to police and was charged with two counts of second-degree vehicular homicide, two counts of second-degree leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death, and two counts of third-degree endangering an injured victim.
