Pedestrian Hit Newark New Jersey in Newark, New Jersey: Two women were killed in a hit-and-run crash while crossing a street in Newark, New Jersey, after leaving a World Cup watch party on Saturday night. The suspect, 26-year-old David J. Zapata-Vera of Newark, struck the women in the crosswalk and fled the scene before surrendering to police on Tuesday. He was charged with two counts of second-degree vehicular homicide, two counts of second-degree leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death, and two counts of third-degree endangering an injured victim. The victims, Mariana Elizabeth Valverde Beltran, 58, and Maria Isabel DeLosAngeles Salgado Ayala, 61, were taken to University Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
