Pedestrian Hit Newark New Jersey in Newark, New Jersey: Two women were killed in a hit-and-run crash while using a crosswalk in Newark, New Jersey, after leaving a World Cup watch party on Saturday night. The driver, 26-year-old David J. Zapata-Vera of Newark, struck the women and fled the scene; video shows the car barreling through the intersection and the two being thrown airborne. Both women were transported to University Hospital, where they were pronounced dead. Zapata-Vera surrendered to police on Tuesday and was charged with two counts of second-degree vehicular homicide, two counts of second-degree leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death, and two counts of third-degree endangering an injured victim.
