Pedestrian Hit Newark New Jersey in Newark, New Jersey: Two women were killed in a hit-and-run crash while crossing a street in Newark, New Jersey, after leaving a World Cup watch party. Prosecutors said David J. Zapata-Vera, 26, of Newark, struck the women in the crosswalk on Saturday night before fleeing the scene. The women, Mariana Elizabeth Valverde Beltran, 58, and Maria Isabel DeLosAngeles Salgado Ayala, 61, were taken to University Hospital, where they were pronounced dead. Zapata-Vera surrendered to police on Tuesday and was charged with two counts of second-degree vehicular homicide, two counts of second-degree leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death, and two counts of third-degree endangering an injured victim.
