Car Crash Alpine Texas in Alpine, Texas: A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper was seriously injured and a pickup truck driver was killed Tuesday morning in a head-on crash on U.S. Highway 67 in Brewster County, authorities said. Trooper Zachary Vasquez of Alpine was traveling about five miles east of Alpine when a blue GMC Sierra pickup truck crossed the center line into oncoming traffic and struck Vasquez's DPS Chevrolet Tahoe head-on. Vasquez's K-9 partner, Guido, was in the patrol vehicle but escaped major injury. An Alpine Police Department officer who witnessed the crash applied tourniquets to the injured trooper, who was taken to Big Bend Regional Medical Center with severe leg injuries; the GMC driver died at the scene.
