Aircraft Chanute Kansas in Chanute, Kansas: On June 23, 2026, near Chanute, Kansas, a small plane missed the runway due to cloud cover and nosedived east of U.S. (highway). The pilot deployed a parachute and the plane landed upside down in a field, where wind caught the parachute and dragged the aircraft across the field. The pilot escaped safely, but a passenger was stranded on the wing. Hatten Gleue drove his pickup truck through a fence and across the field to stop the plane, allowing the passenger to get down from the wing before the wind flipped the plane over the truck and dragged it across the highway until a line of trees stopped it. The passenger escaped with minor injuries.
