Pedestrian Hit Newark Massachusetts in Newark, Massachusetts: David J. Zapata-Vera, 26, of Newark, surrendered to police on Tuesday, June 23, in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred on Saturday, June 20. Prosecutors say Zapata-Vera struck two women who were in the crosswalk at Park Avenue and North 7th Street in Newark before fleeing the scene. Both women were taken to University Hospital, where they later died. Zapata-Vera is charged with two counts of second-degree vehicular homicide, two counts of second-degree leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death, and two counts of third-degree endangering an injured victim.
