Bus Crash New York City New York in New York City, New York: On Dec. 1, 2025, 19-year-old Hiram Carrero boarded a New York City subway car at the 34th Street–Penn Station stop and used paper to set fire to a sleeping man. Carrero then left the victim locked inside the car as the train departed, with footage showing the man's legs engulfed in flames. The victim, still on fire, exited at Times Square and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition; he survived but suffered permanent extensive scarring and disfigurement. Carrero pleaded guilty to arson on March 5 and was sentenced to five years and six months in prison plus three years of supervised release and restitution.
