Dog rescued from fatal semitruck crash, I-64, Charleston, WV
Semi Truck Crash South Charleston West Virginia in South Charleston, West Virginia: A fatal crash occurred on Interstate 64 westbound near the South Charleston/Dunbar bridge in South Charleston, West Virginia, on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at about 5:30 p.m. The crash involved a semitruck driven by Jeffrey Carl Simons, 63, of Wellsburg, Iowa, a four-door Nissan sedan that became pinned under the rear driver's-side tires of the semi, and a Dodge pickup truck. Simons died in the crash, and the semi-truck caught fire. A dog was rescued unhurt from the truck and taken by the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association. Westbound traffic was shut down for nine hours, and South Charleston and Dunbar fire crews along with the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office responded.
