Dog rescued from fatal semitruck crash, I-64, Charleston, WV
Semi Truck Crash South Charleston West Virginia in South Charleston, West Virginia: A fatal crash occurred on Interstate 64 westbound near the South Charleston/Dunbar bridge in South Charleston, West Virginia, on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at about 5:30 p.m. The crash involved a semitruck, a four-door Nissan sedan, and a Dodge pickup truck, with the Nissan pinned under the rear of the semitruck and the semitruck catching fire. Jeffrey Carl Simons, 63, of Wellsburg, Iowa, who was driving the semitruck, died in the crash. No one in the passenger vehicles was injured, and a dog was rescued unhurt from the truck and taken to the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association. South Charleston and Dunbar fire crews, along with the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office, responded to the scene, and westbound traffic was shut down for nine hours.
