Dog rescued from fatal semitruck crash, I-64, Charleston, WV
Semi Truck Crash South Charleston West Virginia in South Charleston, West Virginia: A fatal crash occurred on Interstate 64 westbound near the South Charleston/Dunbar bridge in South Charleston, West Virginia, on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at about 5:30 p.m. The crash involved a semitruck driven by Jeffrey Carl Simons, 63, of Wellsburg, Iowa, a four-door Nissan sedan that became pinned under the rear of the semitruck, and a Dodge pickup truck. The semitruck caught fire and Simons died in the crash. No one in the passenger vehicles was injured, and a dog was rescued unhurt from the truck and taken to the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association. South Charleston and Dunbar fire crews, the South Charleston Police Department, and the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office responded, and westbound traffic was shut down for nine hours.
