When the victim took out the card, the buyer grabbed it and ran north toward Gilman, escaping in a gray sedan with several other people. The victim's friend later set up a meeting with the seller, Zavier Alvarez, and took back the stolen card. Berkeley police used Flock license plate data and cellphone records to link Alvarez to the getaway car, and he was arrested in early May at his home in Pittsburg and charged with grand theft and receiving stolen property.
