Fatal crash on U.S. 50 in Lander County leaves one dead, another critical

Motorcycle Crash Nevada Today in Nevada: On Sunday, June 14, at approximately 8:32 a.m., Nevada Highway Patrol troopers responded to a crash on U.S. 50 near Lander County mile marker 27, about three miles east of Austin. A preliminary investigation determined a black Harley tricycle car traveling westbound failed to negotiate a right-hand corner, crossed the centerline, ran off the roadway to the left, launched off a dirt embankment, traveled down a steep ravine before overturning, and came to rest on its back facing east. The driver, 68-year-old James Chapman of Carson City, sustained life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead on scene. An adult female passenger was transported to a regional hospital, where she remains in the Intensive Care Unit. The crash remains under investigation by the Nevada Highway Patrol Major Incident Reconstruction Team (MIRT).
