The 26-year-old deputy was inside his patrol vehicle with its lights on, helping with traffic control after an earlier crash, when the northbound SUV struck him. The deputy was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries, and the SUV driver was also hospitalized. The SUV driver was later booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on requested charges of driving under the influence and aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer.
