During the encounter, the 53-year-old suspect, Brian Keith Fikac of Holland, displayed what deputies believed to be a firearm, and three deputies discharged their weapons, shooting him. Fikac sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Baylor Scott and White Medical Center, where he remained in custody with bond set at $500,000. One deputy also sustained an injury and was taken to the hospital for evaluation but was later released; none of the deputies were struck by gunfire.
