Fire at Fairfax County elementary school sends smoke visible for miles
Summary
Vehicle Fire Fairfax Virginia in Fairfax, Virginia: A fire at Bren Mar Park Elementary School sent smoke billowing for miles Sunday afternoon as crews battled wind-driven flames in Fairfax County, officials said. The fire was reported around 3:20 p.m. at the school, located at 6344 Beryl Road, and was quickly upgraded to a two-alarm response, drawing additional apparatus from neighboring jurisdictions, Alexandria and Arlington County. Firefighters encountered challenging conditions upon arrival, with strong winds pushing flames through a two-story addition under construction that is behind the main building. Flames came from the roof of the addition, said Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Matthew Tamillow. Crews contained the flames and prevented them from spreading to the main school building and nearby classroom trailers, as well as to other houses and buildings, officials said. No injuries were reported.
